Sammendrag
In this report, available solutions to prevent runoff are summarized. Boxes without drainage holes appear as an option that can be quickly implemented if fish had been cooled sufficiently. Such boxes must either be designed to collect the runoff without coming into contact with the fish, or absorbents must take care of the runoff. Both solutions will be more expensive than the current procedure. It is also possible to mount collection tanks on the trucks. These are located under the trolley and collect the water that forms. There is a challenge with capacity, as today's tanks hold around 250 litres. It will also take time before tanks are installed on all trolleys that transport fish in Norway. In addition, there are alternative refrigerants that do not create run off, such as CO2 snow and gelice. CO2 snow is expensive, and comes with an HSE challenge, while gelice is more expensive than ice, and creates a waste problem for the customer. Overall, it is possible to solve this problem. Tight boxes or collection tanks appear to be the most relevant, but both options require that the fish is well chilled before it is placed in the box, so that the ice in the box does not have the main purpose of cooling the fish but keeping it cold.
