Sammendrag

Today, only about 15% of global animalprotein consumption stems from aquatic raw material (FAO, 2024). With the rising world population, predicted to reach between 9.4 and 10.2 billion in 2050 (UN, 2017), a substantial increase in aquacultural food production is expected to play a central role in meeting the future protein demand (FAO, 2024). About 85% of global fish species are already maximally exploited, and a significant amount of this protein will come from farmed aquatic species, like Atlantic salmon (Albrektsen et al., 2022).
