Findings in the British market have shown that previously frozen products of cod and haddock have an increasing market share in British retail. Can Norwegian producers and exporters experience the same picture in the Swedish and German market? Today cod is cod in several segments, both in Germany and Sweden, which gives the importers a great flexibility, when purchasing fresh cod. Therefore, fresh cod is dominant in these to markets. However, studies of Swedish retail showed that it were some examples of previously frozen cod, with limited labelling to consumer. At the same time, one of the biggest retailers in Germany just started selling pre-packed cod based of previously frozen raw material (cod from the Pacific ocean).
