Biografi Hooman Khaleghi Moghadam

I received my M.Sc. from the Center for Genetic Improvement of Livestock, University of Guelph, Canada, where I estimated genetic parameters for various cardiovascular defects in different strains of broiler chicken. The focus of my doctoral work, at the Department of Integrative Biology, University of Guelph, aimed at the characterization and genomic localization of different early developmentally important candidate genes within the genomes of two tetraploid derivative species, Rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon. As a researcher, I further had the opportunity to work at the University of Guelph, Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Cornell University, University of Oxford, Institute of Marine Biology and Genetics in Crete and most recently at Nofima, investigating species as diverse as fish, dogs and birds at their entire genomes. Recent advances in DNA and RNA sequencing technologies that do not rely on any prior knowledge of the species genetic architecture, have now made it possible to obtain near complete genome or transcriptome sequences from not only non-model organisms, but also from many individuals within a species, with low cost and in a short time span. The primary goal of my research is to use such cutting-edge genomic techniques along with computational tools to have a better understanding of the molecular basis of phenotypic variation for complex traits such as growth, reproduction, time for sexual maturation and disease resistance.
