A new European standard allows small fishing companies to perform self-assessment of the sustainability of their catches. The standard can help companies in documenting environmental, social and economic sustainability, and give estimates of the emission of CO2 per kg caught fish.
Climate changes are happening right now and they are threatening sustainable growth in aquaculture and fisheries worldwide. ClimeFish wants to draw the focus to the necessity of change, both when it comes to using opportunities while mitigating risks under the effects of climate change on aquaculture and fisheries.

Climate change has already begun to significantly affect aquaculture, according to FAO. Although challenging, climate change may introduce opportunities for aquaculture if it manages to adapt. In an FAO symposium a Nofima research scientist, Dr. Panya Sae-Lim recently presented key adaptive strategies for breeding programs for farmed aquaculture species under climate change.

A new tool can document sustainability in cod and haddock fishing in the North Atlantic. A European Good Practice standard has been created.
The goal of the WHITEFISH project is to strengthen the competitiveness of the European cod/haddock industry by documenting the desirable characteristics of whitefish caught in the north-east Atlantic, in particular relating to sustainability.
CATCH is a visionary project where the objective is to “catch” the maximal sustainable value of wild Atlantic cod based on live storage.
The goal of the centre is a paradigm shift within fisheries technology.
The main objective of this work package is to estimate and quantify how climate changes impact Arctic fisheries and aquaculture, and the livelihood of communities and economic actors depending of these industries.
