Increasing global competition for natural resources poses major challenges to the Arctic region. These include strategically planning of fair distribution of economic gains and work opportunities, whilst simultaneously minimising the impact of ecological, social, cultural and political challenges and tensions that will arise through expansion of new businesses.
The SaRi project aims to study coexistence between fish farming, fisheries and fishing tourism in Finnmark, and whether facts about ripple effects affect the coexistence between these parties.

How can the marine industries coexist in a good way along the coast? Nofima is now launching a new multidisciplinary research initiative focusing on the coexistence of different coastal industries. The objective is to gain increased knowledge and find better tools for ensuring steady industrial development in Norway.
During this project, the researchers shall gather new, multidisciplinary knowledge about how the marine industries can coexist in a good way along the coast, and develop new methodologies and models for such coexistence.
