The box-shaped design of square, one chamber pots is exclusively used in the king crab fisheries in Norway. The goal of this project was to document the effectiveness of using a new developed king crab pot from Leif Henriksen (LH). A total of 9 commercial field trials with LH were tested against normal king crab pot (BN), which is considered to be the best on the market in crab fisheries today. LH pots had an average capture of 53.6 crabs per pot, compared to the BN, with an average catch of 38.4 crabs per pot. The LH pot caught in average 13 commercial size crabs that was significantly more than BN pot with 7,8 crab’s pr pot. The LH pot also selecting better on size and gender as compared to today's BN pot.
