This report addresses cost developments in Norwegian salmon farming until 2017, and some of the driving forces behind cost development. The report focuses on smolt costs and capital-related cost in the industry.

Costs continue to increase, with an increase of 5% from 2016 to 2017. Feed costs decline, while other operating costs increase, an indication of persistent challenges with lice.

Both smolt costs and depreciation have increased a lot in recent years. Smolt costs are driven by the transition to larger smolt and investments in RAS plants. The increases in depreciation are naturally associated with increased investments in the industry.
