Summary

Future growth and development of the aquaculture industry are required to be according to the principle of sustainability, involving both social, economic and ecological aspects of the concept. To support this, policy makers and administration need more knowledge about how cage based farming affects ecosystem services and society. This report summarise available knowledge and knowledge gaps in a fjord system in northern Norway. It demonstrates an holistic approach to how a large scale project can address knowledge gaps and complement the knowledge needed to meet the requirements of sustainable future development of salmon aquaculture in sea cages.
