Fish with different genetic background (High and Low desaturase) fed diets with different levels of EPA and DHA from 100-500 g, were held in a common sea cage and fed a low- omega-3-diet. Fish were slaughtered at 4 kg. Low desaturase fish had lower survival and higher fat deposition in internal organs. . Low desaturase fish developed fatty liver with less EPA and DHA than High desaturase fish. High EPA and DHA level in early phase diet caused higher levels of EPA and DHA in fillet at slaughter size, compared to low-EPA/DHA-diets.
