The fish processing industry in Troms and Finnmark has undergone considerable changes the last decade. Increased competition in the local raw material market and the end markets for seafood – has imputed huge structural alterations. This development has contributed to weak profitability in the white fish sector, though with better prospects within the pelagic consumption and shrimp sector. A common denominator for all branches is that the majority of firms are facing big challenges.The report further presents the value added in the fisheries industry, as it emerges from the National Accounts. Here, the industry’s relative importance for the counties, together with the sectors’ contribution to total value added and employment, are outlined.
