This report identifies potential advantages based on natural conditions and competence/ knowledge within the Norwegian seafood industry (fresh salmon and cod/haddock). Important requirements for differentiation strategies are discussed as well as how differentiation may lead to competitive advantage. The report also describes identified differentiation opportunities and strategies that are too some extent applied by the industry today. Finally, five suggestions for specific research tasks are provided. The aim with these are to give an in-depth analysis of key strategic opportunities related to sustainability (MSC), catch method (hook and line), high product quality through capture based aquaculture as well as strategies for salmon filets. The purpose here is to provide research based advice to the industry.
