This project has studied the competitive situation for the Norwegian fish-processing industry under the un-resolved situation for mackerel in the North Atlantic. A ban on Faroese landings of mackerel in Norway did not severely affect the industry, as this loss was more than compensated by other foreign landings as well as increase in Norwegian landings. Markets were expected to be affected by larger volume and more suppliers. As it turns out, markets have been only moderately affected. In the short term future the Norwegian industry is well positioned for buying a larger proportion of the increased quota. On the other hand, if quotas go down to the previous levels of 600-700 thousand tonnes, the added producers and increased production capacity means the Norwegian industry will be facing a tougher competitive situation.
