Angola is an increasing market for «bacalhau». The economic growth and peace after the civil war ended in 2002 are the major explanations for this positive economic development. Norway is the major exporter of dreid and salted saithe to Angola. The way dried and salted saithe are packed are optimized for the “bulk-breaking-strategy” in African markets. However, increasing parts of dried and salted cod are sold through supermarkets, which want more value added products. This may explain way Portuguese companies are the major exporters of dried and salted cod to Angola.
