Conclusion: Cigarette smoking reduced plasma leptin concentration in vivo, whereas nicotine had no direct effect on leptin expression in vitro. Nicotine might indirectly reduce leptin secretion via enhanced plasma catecholamine concentration. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
