Processing Laboratory

The Processing Laboratory (Prosesslab) is an equipment park for biotechnological companies that need to test processes in large scale.

Biotechnology can become one of the most important growth sectors in Norway. Prosesslab has therefore been established to contribute to innovation within marine biotechnology.

Processes in large scale

The basic, research-based part in development of the marine biotechnological industry takes place in small scale on the laboratory bench. In the transition from laboratory to industry, the companies need to test their processes in large scale.

Prosesslab’s equipment makes this possible.
Interested businesses, research institutions and university environments may borrow equipment by agreement.

Creation and innovation

Today, a number of marine organisms are used in traditional fishing and in aquaculture as feed, feed mediums and as raw materials for production of biochemicals.

The development within biomedicine, biotechnological industry and aquaculture provides opportunities for added value in marine organisms that are utilised today, and in those that are still not being utilised.

Prosesslab was established to position Tromsø as a start-up location for new biotechnological industry, and to accommodate for germination from the biotechnology environments at the University of Tromsø, Nofima and University Hospital of North Norway.

Joint venture partners

Prosesslab is a collaboration between Troms County Council District, Innovasjon Norge, the Marine Biotechnology Programme in Tromsø (MABIT), biotechnology companies in the region and Nofima.

Troms County Council District, Innovasjon Norge and MABIT have contributed with financial support for the establishment, together with Biotec Pharamacon, ProBio Nutraceuticals, Trofi and Nofima.
