Testing new packaging for stockfish
Fiskeriforskning has started up a project to test new packaging for stockfish.
Most of the stockfish produced in Norway is packed in burlap sacks and exported to Italy.
A variety of carton solutions will be tested, from the completely dense type to those that allow air to move through the carton walls. The cartons will be tested at different temperatures and on stockfish with varying degrees of dryness.
Cartons can reduce transportation costs and give better protection against dehydration, insects and vermin. In addition, cartons provide a better possibility for profiling.
The results will be available in June 2004. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Stockfish Forum and is financed by the Fishery and Aquaculture Industry Research Fund.
