Live storage of cod
By storing cod live, the fishermen can have greater incomes and the fishing industry and consumers can get fresh fish year round.
Fiskeriforskning has started a project wherein five coastal vessels at Stø in Vesterålen are being equipped with technology that will allow them to land the fish alive. From the vessels, the cod is transferred to net cages, where it is held until it is slaughtered.
Thus, the fishermen can catch cod during winter, when there is a lot of it in the area, and hold it in stock until autumn when there is little fish available and the price is higher. Several tests will be conducted during the course of the project, including survival and productquality.This applied project is based on competence and technology previously developed by Fiskeriforskning within live storage of fish.
