Biography Tormod Næs
I have a PhD i Statistics from University of Oslo . My experience covers both method development and applications within a large number of areas; the most important being spectroscopy, process optimisation, product development and sensory science. The most important publications I have been involved in are the more than 240 peer review papers published in journals related to statistics, chemometrics, food science, sensory science, spectroscopy and analytical chemistry. I have also co-authored and co-edited 6 books in the areas of chemometrics, statistics and sensory science. I have supervised more than 20 students to final PhD degree and have been the European editor of Journal of Chemometrics (3 years) and Associate editor of Technometrics (2 years).
I have extensive experience as project leader and as chairman of international conferences.
Tormod Næs has 218 publications at Nofima:

Edulia responds to the urgent need of the EU society to find new ways to tackle the escalating issue of obesity, through promoting healthier eating from childhood, within the context of choice. Based on the relations between sensory perception, pleasure, food choice and food behaviour, the project will look for new approaches to drive children to like and actively choose healthy foods, developing healthier dietary habits.

Over almost 40 years, Nofima has built up a strong scientific community in the field of spectroscopy - rapid and non-destructive measurements for process optimization. We possess solid expertise within an international format and a modern instrument platform, which is unique in Norway and comparable to the best in Europe. We wish to develop this further by means of establishing the strategic research initiative Spectec.
1. January 2017 – 31. December 2020
The main objective of this research program is to contribute to increased and sustainable growth in the food industry through increased innovativeness in the food value chain.
