I am a senior researcher at the Department of Seafood Industry and works mainly with how catching and slaughtering affect the welfare and quality of fish. I have worked closely with the fishing industry as a fillet worker and cod tongue cutter and has a large network within the fishing industry in northern Norway. I have a degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture Science and received my doctorate in 2007, where I focused on the quality of farmed cod and wild caught fed cod. I participate in and are the project manager responsible for several projects, including the interdisciplinary project EthiCatch which is funded by the Research Council of Norway. Here it will be investigated whether a more gentle catch of fish results in better quality, better price to the fishermen and better price in the market. Other projects that are being worked on are damage to large cod caught by seine net, drip loss during storage, etc.
