I am a scientist in the Fish Health research group at Nofima. My focus areas are the skin, scale and bone development in small salmon, with a particular focus on understanding what promotes the health of these tissues and thereby the overall health of the whole fish.
I am particularly interested in how nutrition, stress and the environment affect the cell development and the dynamics between the cells when something goes wrong. In vitro models of shells, skins and bones are available at Nofima, and in my work I use techniques from functional molecular biology, such as quantitative real-time PCR, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry to study them.
I have extensive experience from both primary and industry-oriented research.
I have a cand.scient. degree in molecular microbiology from the University of Oslo, and a PhD in temperature-induced spinal deformities in Atlantic salmon from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences at Ås.
