Biography Eirik Mikkelsen
Work with social and socio-economic aspects of aquaculture and fisheries, including marine and coastal zone planning and management.
Work-experience and education:
Researcher and Research Director for Social Science at Norut 2000-2017. Experience with regional and industrial development, natural resource and environmental economics, marine and coastal zone management, bio-economic modelling, ecosystem services, climate change, arctic shipping and more.
Senior executive officer for international environmental cooperation at the County Governor of Finnmark 1995-2000.
PhD in Economics/Social sciences from the University of Tromso, Norwegian College of Fisheries Science (Thesis: Economic analyses of user-interactions in the coastal zone).
Cand.Polit. (Master+) in Economics from UiT/NCFS (Thesis: Incentives for International Environmental Co-operation – The Flexible Mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol). Also courses in Ecology, Environmental Science and Eco-philosophy.Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree/Siv.ing. from the University of Southampton, England

Climate changes are happening right now and they are threatening sustainable growth in aquaculture and fisheries worldwide. ClimeFish wants to draw the focus to the necessity of change, both when it comes to using opportunities while mitigating risks under the effects of climate change on aquaculture and fisheries.

ECCO aims to explore the potential and implications of integrating the concept of ecosystem services in impact assessment methodology. The project focuses on knowledge production in impact assessments for new industrial activities in the coastal zone, as well as the potential for and implications of applying cultural ecosystem services as a conceptual tool.

The coast is prized as a playground in which leisure as well as business activities can be enjoyed. During the Coreplan project we have examined how the authorities can manage our coastal zone while taking into account the value provided by our natural environment and safeguarding the various interests concerned.

All available data on the aquaculture industry relating to environmental, economic and social repercussions is to be collated andmade available in a web portal that presents the industry's sustainability.
15. November 2017 – 30. June 2020
A new research project will investigate and analyse relevant management models for aquaculture in the future.
