Biography Bjørn Tore Rotabakk
Competence My name is Bjørn Tore Rotabakk, and I am a researcher at Nofima, Stavanger. I started here as a PhD-student in August 2004, and finished my PhD autumn 2007 at University of Life science (UMB). My PhD was about modified atmosphere packaging, and alternative methods to reduce packaging size and extend shelf life. I mainly work with food quality and shelf life, together with packaging. Education I got my education from the University high school in Sør Trøndelag, where I got a bachelor in food science, before I encountered a master degree at UMB. Before I became a PhD-student, I worked at Tine, Sortland high school and University high school of Ålesund.

Packtech aims to develop next generation sustainable packaging solutions through the design of green and optimal packaging solutions that ensure high food quality and reduce the amount of plastic and food waste.

Snow crab is a relatively new species for the Norwegian seafood industry. The aim of this project has been to contribute towards a sustainable crab fishery in the future and to make the best possible use of this new resource.

This project aims to enable fish products to retain juiciness through releasing less fluid both during production and when packaged.
1. March 2015 – 28. February 2019
In this multi-disciplinary project we have studied the entire value chain for mackerel and farmed salmon.
